Anonymous Group Hacks Illinois Police Department Website

A group calling themselves AnonGhost hacked the website of the Hillside, IL police department early Sunday evening.

The department's homepage was replaced with the insignia of AnonGhost (itself a combination of the familiar Guy Fawkes mask, and something you'd expect to see in a Call of Duty game) along with a declaration of intent by the group. The text of which called to mind a speech made by Brad Pitt's character Tyler Durden in the 1999 film Fight Club.

Along with the cryptic images draped across the page, an audio message automatically plays in the background reintroducing the site's visitors to the familiar robotic voice that is prevalent throughout most of Anonymous' protest videos. A voice which has itself become as much a staple of the nearly-ubiquitous hacktivist group's iconography as Fawkes' porcelain smile.

In the recording, AnonGhost calls for the end of all NATO run operations in "our countries" - which countries they are referring to isn't made clear, but it is assumed that AnonGhost means the conflict countries of the Middle East. The message goes so far as to accuse NATO forces of rape and murder.

According to Hack Read the group also hacked 1,282 random websites across the United State, UK, and Russia Sunday.

This isn't the first time the group has engaged an initiative like this. The group launched "OPIsrael" back in September, hacking and disrupting 130 Israeli websites. Incidentally, later that month the group announced their official retirement from protest hacking on their Facebook page - as reported by the Daily Dot.

It seems that just like Micheal Jordan, Jay-z, and Brett Farve before them, retirement doesn't suit AnonGhost.

As of the writing of this article the Hillside Police Department's website was still hacked and displaying the image shown above.
